Driving the Next Phase of the UK’s Transport Decarbonisation
Fleet electrification success will depend on the availability of smart, high-capacity charging infrastructure, the resilience of the National Grid and the capital efficiency with which these systems are deployed.
Transport contributes nearly 29% of the UK’s total greenhouse gas emissions, making it the single largest emitting sector. Within this, road freight and public service fleets account for over 20 MtCO₂e annually, a figure that can only fall through large-scale electrification of commercial vehicles.
Building on the success of our March 2025 summit, run in partnership with Islington Council and Maritime Transport and attended by over 250 senior fleet and infrastructure leaders, the Optimal Charging: Fleet Electrification returns on 24 March 2026 — this time in partnership with First Bus.
This event will dive deep into the real-world challenges and opportunities shaping the transition across bus, eHGV, utility, MCV, LCV and last-mile delivery fleets.
Why This Matters
The UK’s decarbonisation trajectory depends on fleet transformation. While passenger EV adoption accelerates, heavy and commercial fleets are the critical next frontier.
Recent developments highlight both momentum and urgency:
-
73% of UK fleets have now set a defined emissions-reduction date—well ahead of the global average of 59%
-
70% of fleet operators remain dependent on public charging, risking operational delays and cost volatility
-
Around 8% of England’s bus fleet is currently zero-emission, short of national targets
-
More than 300 UK councils have declared climate emergencies, with many committing to fully decarbonised fleets by 2028 — most are on track to miss these goals without immediate top-level action
What to Expect
Optimal Charging: Fleet Electrification is designed for senior fleet owners, operators and infrastructure stakeholders driving commercial transport transition.
The event will deliver:
-
Strategic Insight – from public and private fleet leaders on scaling electrification across bus, eHGV, MCV and LCV operations
-
Operational Best Practice – real-world case studies addressing grid constraints, depot charging design, vehicle-to-grid (V2G) integration and total cost of ownership (TCO) optimisation
-
Fast-Paced Panels & Q&A – robust debate on planning, financing and technology adoption under RIIO-ED2 and beyond
-
High-Value Networking – connect 1-2-1 with decision-makers, technology innovators, financiers and local authorities throughout the day
This is where fleet strategy meets infrastructure execution.
